By Leonard Feigenblatt ~ On a chilly Thursday evening, Jan. 24, longtime Cherry Grove resident Robert Levine turned himself into his alter ego Rose Levine and appeared in a sold out show, entitled “Broadway Melodies,” at Pangea in New York City. Rose sang songs by many composers including Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Jule Styne. She was accompanied on the piano by Mark York and guest singer/dancer Chris Bell joined Rose for a medley of duets from Kander and Ebb’s “Chicago.”

Highlights of the evening were Rose’s signature Fanny Brice medley, which included “Second Hand Rose,” “Cooking Breakfast For the One I Love” and “I’m an Indian.” Famed Broadway Composer Jerry Herman is arguably the one Rose has the most affinity with, and her extended medley of his songs were beautifully sung and very affecting.

Rose Levine: “Broadway Melodies” will have an encore performance at Pangea on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.

Rose will also be appearing in her annual concert at the Cherry Grove Community Theatre in July, to benefit the Arts Project of Cherry Grove – date to be announced..
