Media Literacy for Adults ~ Virtual Adult Education at Fire Island School

January 14 @ 4:00 pm - 4:40 pm

In a world of “alternative facts” and misinformation it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell what’s real from what’s not. This course will help you learn to safely navigate this confusing information landscape and how to tell the difference between standards-based news and opinion, hoaxes, sponsored content and all the other forms of information, and misinformation, that we are targeted by. We’ll explore how you can learn to quickly verify claims you see on social media as well as how to ensure that you and your family have a healthy and well-balanced information diet. This course is led by media literacy expert Damaso Reyes, founder of Clarify.Media and an international journalist for more than 20 years whose work has been published by The New York Times, New York magazine, The Wall Street Journal and the Miami Herald.

Damaso Reyes, Course instructor ~  Classes every Thursday for five weeks beginning January 14, 2021 from  4 – 4:40 p.m., $20 enrollment fee, must be at least 18 years of age to sign up.
